what is the best codec to use for home movies?

My video editing experience has been limited to 480 home movie stuff but would like to try video recording and editing at 2K. What codec would be the most appropriate?

SUITABLE Video Codec for final output to Festivals/Theatrical/Netflix/Cable/HD TV Hi. Happy 2020 everyone :) Thanks in advance for reading below. I am working on a one-hour film that will be sent to select international festivals (theatrical showings), as well as aimed at Netflix and such OTT/cable/HD broadcast sales. For this, I want to make sure I have the best Video Codec export settings (Specially keeping in mind the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) process and files i have to provide to my post house). As I'm sure you all know, there are bunch of choices of codecs when we go to export. I want to know which works best. Can you please let me know what/which combos are best and retain/give the highest quality? (My film uses resolutions that span 360 to 4k so it's a multi-res film). Thanks in advance.

Can I export with the following specs without Compressor? Hello, A newbie to FCP here, wondering if he might export directly from Final Cut Pro (without Compressor) a video with the following specs: VIDEO Format: QuickTime Movie Compressor: Apple ProRes 422 LT Scan Mode: Interlaced Gamma Correction: None Dimensions: HD 1920x1080 Frame rate: 25 fps Field order - Top(upper) field first AUDIO Format: Linear PCM Channels: Stereo(L - R) Rate: 48 kHz Render Settings/Quality: Best Sample Size: 16 bits Integer (Little Endian) Level: - 12 dB And if the answer is yes, where can I find all the settings mentioned before? my concern is with file size. I think it might be easy to fill the 128gb memory with video at 500mbps. So would I be happy with 422 LT or Proxy on my hd screen?
