You want to have backups.
Settings reset? Typically no data loss, excluding the erase-all, which does what it says.

What data is stored in iCloud will remain available.
Various local settings can select either local storage, or iCloud storage.
What is stored on other mail servers will remain.
Apps can be re-downloaded.
What is backed up can be restored.
What is not in iCloud, not stored elsewhere, and not otherwise backed up, will be lost in a factory reset.
Have a backup, regardless.
You should have local Mac or Windows backups, or iCloud backups, already, or you’re one drop, one corruption, one dunk, or one theft away from data grief.
