How do I print a GBP pound sign using an Apple Mac with El Capitan?

If you are using a U.S. English Apple keyboard, then option+3 (£) will access the GBP symbol. Pressing ctrl+cmd+spacebar will open the character viewer where you can search for the word pound and two different versions are presented.

Open the Keyboard Viewer and check which combination of keys you need. It will depend on your keyboard layout, but it is something like option-2 or shift-option-3 or so.


Alternatively, pres. command-control-space to open the Character Viewer. You can type any of those characters into the active window by double-clicking


Finally, you also create a text substitution, to that, for example when you type gbp it will automatically substitute the pound sign for it.
