Connecting peripherals using the original cable to the iPad

I apologize in advance for my English, I use google translate.

The essence of the topic is that it is not clear to me how the usb of the iPad works.

I recently purchased a keyboard and an external usb microphone (Hyper X Alloy 60 and Hyper X Quadcast S). They don't always connect to the iPad with the original cable (which came with the iPad in the box)

Some time ago I tried to connect this keyboard to an iPad using the original type c to type c cable - the keyboard did not work. Then I tried to connect the keyboard using a third-party Type C to Type A cable with using an OTG adapter - the keyboard started working! I could live with it, but recently I connected a microphone with the original cable (type c to type c) and it worked, I was surprised and delighted. The next day I tried to connect the microphone in exactly the same way, but it no longer worked in this way, only through a third-party cable and an OTG adapter.

So I can’t understand why one day the device connected, the next day it doesn’t work with the same cable. (on a Windows laptop, the keyboard and microphone are immediately connected and work properly, already checked)

The keyboard and microphone have a Type C connector, so I would really like to use the original cable without any adapters, so that it is neat and reliable.

Hello SteveGrey7,

Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities!

Check out the information below to see if this helps to address what you're looking to do. You can also find additional information here: Charge and connect with the USB-C port on your iPad - Apple Support

Connect to other devices

The USB-C port on your iPad allows connections to a variety of devices. For example, you can connect a digital camera or the Apple USB-C to SD Card Reader to import photos. Other USB devices that you can connect to your iPad include these:

• External storage devices

• Hubs and docks

• Keyboards

• Audio interfaces and MIDI devices

• USB to Ethernet adapters

Use an adapter

Depending on the device, you might need an adapter. Here are some common connections:

• If the device that you're connecting to has a USB-C port, all you need is a cable with USB-C connectors on each end, such as the cable that came with your iPad.

• If the device has a USB-C connector, you can plug it directly into the iPad Pro USB-C port.

• If the device has a USB-A connector, you can plug it into the Apple USB-C to USB adapter, then plug the adapter into the USB-C port of your iPad.

In addition, check with the manufacturer of the devices you're connecting to see what's needed for them to pair with your iPad as they may require an adapter or different cable.

We hope that's able to help.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the answer.

Unfortunately, I didn't find out what the problem is.

Judging by what you attached in the message, the keyboard and microphone (which is in fact an audio interface) should work, since both the iPad and these devices have Type C.

The keyboard does not work with the original Apple cable, but it works with an adapter. I think this is a feature of the keyboard so it does not matter.

But the microphone, using the original Apple cable (type c - type c), works randomly. Just tried to connect it, it didn't work. After some time, I re-plugged the cable and it started working, but after a minute it turned off (and did not turn on until I re-plugged the cable). Other times everything works without problems.

The fact that he worked with a type c cable on both sides, I attach a photo.

However, with a third-party cable (Type C - Type A) and an adapter for Type C, the microphone works without interruption on the iPad. All this causes bewilderment and inconvenience in work.

If there is any solution to this problem, I would be glad to know. If not, then it will simply turn out to be an just inconvenience, in any case, both the keyboard and the microphone can be used with a non-original cable and adapter. Thanks for helping me.
