Syncing transactions and money out budget

Hello! New to using numbers app… So I used the template titled simple budget, I added a transactions table in the form data. The simple budget has money out and I customized it and added the categories I added in the pop up menu for my transactions table. But they are not syncing. If I add a transaction for utilities in the data form of transactions, it does not show up in my budget chart of money out. How do I get those to sync?

You can try SUMIF, something like this:

The formula in B2, filled down:

=SUMIF(Transactions::D,$A2,Transactions::C)

if your region uses , as a decimal separator then instead use

=SUMIF(Transactions::D;$A2;Transactions::C)

The spelling in column A of 'Money Out' and column D of 'Transactions' must be exactly the same.

TheMoney Out table on the Simple Budget template for Numbers for Mac 11.2 contains only a single formula. Data on all rows but the last are direct entry, not a 'summary' value for a named category.

Take a look at the Personal Budget template, which includes a Transactions table (Direct entry) and a Summary by category table, which uses the SUMIF function to calculate the total amounts spent in each named category on Transactions.

In my example, based closely on the built-in template, the formula references a SEPARATE new table named Transactions.

Is that what you are doing? Try posting a screenshot with the cell with formula selected (as in my screenshot) so the formula can be seen at the lower left. To post a screenshot type shift-command-4, drag to select an area with the crosshairs, release, start a new post here and use the “mountains and moon” Image Insertion icon to insert the image from the Desktop.

Those two tables are pretty inconsequential. Both are direct entry, meaning you need to enter from the keyboard, each value shown on the table .

Transactions, in the Personal Budget template is used to record the 'money in' as it arrives, and the 'money out' as it is spent.

Calculating the total in and the total out is a simple matter of summing the positive values (money in), summing the negative values (money out) then subtracting 'out' from 'in' to determine how much is left.

You may wind up with a hybrid using features of both those templates. Open a new document with each of those templates, enter that values that you expect will be close to normal, then compare what you needed to enter in each, and which did a better job of meeting your expectations and needs. It may turn out to be one, the other, or a combination of the two. Post back (in this discussion) what you found out and where you want to go from there.

Barry
