My iPod touch was purchased last spring to allow music we had loaded on iPod classics for 2021 Audi Q5 PHEV MMI
It has worked until recent update. It used to automatically be available but now only with signing in.
What changed and/or how can I fix that communication problem, It is plugged in, wired.

That would mean that you need to be signed in, or that you would need to download something (music) from Apple Music, for use offline since the iPod Touch does not have a data connection of its own (it needs Wi-Fi). I still do not understand what why Apple did to the iOS, and why?
If your iPod requires that you be signed in before you can play any music, that suggests that you are now signed up for Apple Music. Is this what you've done, or are you using iTunes Match or iCloud?
I was hoping that you would tell me. If you're not using any of these services, then they are not the problem. I admit though, I don't understand what the following means:

I don't understand how adding music to an iPod Classic relates to an iPod Touch.
I think we need to clarify what you're saying: I think you're saying that the music on the iPod Touch will not play and that you see a message asking you to sign in. Is that correct? Presumably, this happens even when the iPod is not connected to the car, is that correct?
iPod Classic(s) run well and still do. Audi MMI will NOT open iPod Touch which is stashed in central glove box.
The music loaded on the touch is the same library we used on our classics.
