I had this problem where when I moved my mouse to the left or to the right side of the screen, the mouse cursor froze. After some trial and error, I found out that during that time, a mouse cursor moved on my iPad.
Long story short, Universal Control moved my cursor to my iPad. A useful
feature, but it was suprising and confusing to me, since I did not know
what was happening. You can disable Universal Control in the Settings.
