Wi-fi has the self-assigned IP address…

My WiFi has a self assigned IP address and is not able to connect to the internet. What can I do to connect to ANY Wi-Fi network from my MacBook Air? My other devices connect perfectly. The MBA will not attach to my home network, several public networks or my iPhone hotspot. I have deleted the recommended files found on several threads found in various support forums. MacBook Air 2017 running Monterey 12.4.

Hello Crash93,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with connecting to Wi-Fi on your MacBook Air. To start, follow the steps listed here to see if they resolve the issue: If your Mac isn't connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi – Apple Support (UK)

"If you can access the internet when connected to a different network, or you're not sure, check with your network administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) to make sure your network is working correctly."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hello Crash93,

Thanks for the update. To make sure its noted, you did try running the built-in diagnostic tools in Wi-Fi settings, to see if it was able to diagnose the cause for the issues you're experiencing, right?

Also, have you run a network diagnostic test on your Mac (If your Mac isn't connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi - Use the built in diagnostic tools)? If not, give that a try to see if any issues are picked up.

In addition to the wireless diagnostic tools, have you tried the full diagnostic test for Mac? If you haven't yet, go ahead and run that as well. Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac

Best wishes.

Thanks for the attempt at assisting Faith. Unfortunately I have tried all of the standard network connectivity troubleshooting steps and all of the forum suggestions I could find to resolve this particular issue. I had perfect connectivity regardless of location or network prior to leaving for a 10 day vacation, leaving my laptop home & powered off. When I returned, I could no longer connect to my home network, Starbucks, my personal hotspot, nor a campground public wifi. My iPad & iPhone successfully connect to all of these networks.

Yes, when I ran the wireless diagnostics I received the same summary whether I was “connected” to each of the WiFi networks or my personal hotspot:

• Review Wi-Fi Best Practices

• LAN Connectivity Failure

o Try resetting your wireless router

o How would I reset Verizon’s router??

• Self-Assigned IP Address

o Contact your ISP for further assistance

o Which ISP?

 Spectrum?

 Verizon?

 Starbucks/Google??

 T-Mobile

• Crowded Wi-Fi Channel

o Same questions as the LAN Connectivity Failure

When I ran Apple Diagnostics it returned:

• No Issues found.

o Reference Code ADP000

Greetings Crash93 ~ Just in case you have alerts set up for this thread...

I'm having this exact problem with my mother's MacBook Air and have tried all of the standard suggested solutions. Just curious if you've brought your laptop to the "Genius" Bar and, if so, had any luck regaining your internet. My closest Genius bar is over an hour away so I don't want to make that trip if it won't yield any results. Thanks!
