Texting a contact whose mobile phone number has changed

I’ve changed the mobile # for a contact, but when I text it goes to the old number. How do I get it to start using the new number?

Changing incorrect number - found wrong number in Settings, then down to Phone Hello, Can anyone help please? I recently changed my provider to Virgin but asked for existing number to remain. That appears to have worked. However, when I make a call from contacts, it says "dial assist" and does not dial out. I also checked in Settings, under my name and my number is correct there. But, when in Settings and I scrolled down to Phone, where it says My Number, the original number is showing from the Virgin sim and not my old number. Tried to amend and save it but it reverts to Virgin number again.

Type the phone number into the To: for the message. If you have a thread that already exists with the old number, that is why it is trying to use the old number when you enter their name.
