Apple notes checklist display issue when saving as a .PDF file on Mac

When I export an Apple Note to a .PDF file on my Mac that contains a check list, there is a formatting issue and the check boxes either don't align properly or are duplicated without text further down the page.

It doesn't seem to matter if I print to .PDF, or export as a .PDF, it formats the same. any suggestions on how to work around this?
