Is there really no way to connect my AirPods to the Find My app on my MacBook Air?

I have new AirPods that I would like to add to Find My app on my MacBook Air.

All instructions on Apple's website only show how to connect AirPods to your Find My app on your iPhone. I don't have an iPhone.

I have already connected my AirPods to the computer but when I look at the Devices tab on the Find My app on my MacBook Air the AirPods are not included in the list.

I believe you need AirPods Pro or AirPods Max to do this without an iPhone.
