All modern computers and apps use Unicode. Instead of switching fonts to get special characters, you use a special keyboard or something like Character Viewer to input them, and the system automatically uses whatever fonts are appropriate to produce the display.
What for exactly? Please provide details about what you are trying to do.

You input such characters into any app directly from the Character Viewer.

Got it, thanks. Was looking to get the full "Musical Symbols" as a "Typeface" in my Fonts list but grabbing what I need when I need it from Emoji's is fine for now.
