I have the iOS version 15.5 and for some reason I cannot add a lock to my notes. There is no lock icon showing. I do have many notes with locks, which were put on there before IOS 15.
This note is in iCloud and is not shared with anyone.
I do not see anything in settings to enable locks.
Anyone know how to enable locking notes and/or make the lock icon show up?
Edit: I found this online: Starting in iOS 15, Apple allowed you to tag certain items, like Reminders and Notes, with hashtags (#). This way you could more easily search for items without having to necessarily remember the right words. So you can tag all the recipes in your Notes with things like #Vegetarian, #Chocolate, etc. to organize them and make them more searchable.
This comes at the cost of locking those notes. Locking a note makes it completely unsearchable except for the title, which defeats the purpose of adding a hashtag intended to make a note more searchable. If you can’t lock a note, check to see if it has any hashtags in it and delete said hashtags. Unless your note has another offending item that prevents it from being locked (see below), then you should now have the option to lock the note.
My note does have the # sign - like ID #12345 or SSN #123-45-6789. So that must be the problem: Apple is interpreting this as a hashtag!
STOOPID APPLE!!! Please fix this and allow us to put ANY characters in our notes!!!

I found this: Yes, you can turn it off completely!
Go to Settings > Notes. Scroll down and find ‘Auto Convert to Tag’ and set the toggle to off.
Yay!
Unfortunately, I've already written my note, and it has about 100 # symbols that are still being interpreted as hashtags even after flipping the switch in settings.
So my next question - Is there a way to retroactively turn those # symbols into regular text, or do I have to go in there and edit every single # in my whole note?

Certainly!
Change “ID #12345” to “ID 12345”.

don't suppose you have a Mac? You can do find/replace in Notes on the Mac.. otherwise I think it's one by one
OR you should be able to select all and copy the contents of the note, open Pages and use Find/Replace there. I just checked the Pages app and I can find/replace in it
