Apple Watch & Apple TV connection issues

my new Apple Watch 7 doesn’t connect properly to my Apple TV, it takes 3 attempts with it saying pairing canceled or can’t connect, so I tried fixing it following instructions on the forum & removed & re-adding user , then checked HomeKit, now it won’t connect at all!!!

Does your Apple Watch connect as expected when attempting to use as a remote? Control Apple TV with Apple Watch


If not, have you tried a normal restart of you Apple Watch, paired iPhone, and Apple TV?

Should the issue continue, be sure all devices are signed into the same Apple ID as well Remotely access your smart home accessories from Apple Watch - Apple Support

Thanks for the reply, I’ve been through all the guides and reset all twice, what I’ve sussed out is the Apple Watch needs to be unlocked or it will cause the connection to fail, this is a 100% bug, it’s reproducible every time. If I unlock the watch and use the ATV remote app connecting to Apple fitness works however any attempt to connect Apple Watch to Apple fitness using the normal remote or iPhone remote prompts the Apple Watch to be unlocked this then causes the connection to fail. Surely this happens to everyone ? This should just work shouldn’t it?
