my mac does not have USB 3 ports. how do I connect to my new scanner? I'm already using an adapter to the port it fits into. What adapter is strong enough to sustain connection to the scanner?

These are 9-pin-to-9-pin adapters. When used with USB-2, the high speed additional pins above the original four are ignored for an instant conversion to USB-2.

In general, all such adapters are good for all uses EXCEPT high-end displays, where MUCH more careful selection is required.

Most any adapter is "strong" enough to work; you're talking about very low voltage and amperage.
If you mean physically strong enough, what kind of situation do you have that requires a heavy duty thick gauge wire adapter? Are you planning on letting your dongle dangle?
