Run-Time Error 53

The error re-occurred on my MacBook with Monterey 12.6 recently after an Office update.

All I had to do.

Open Terminal Application, type "rm ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User\ Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word/linkCreation.dotm" , hit enter.

Problem gone.

It worked for me.

Two thoughts from someone who hasn't got this error, so I can't say for certain if either will work.

1. If you don't have Acrobat Reader installed then install it and see if that helps.
2. Alternatively uninstall your Office Suite, reboot, and reinstall.

For me it help to remove the ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User\ Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word/linkCreation.dotm for the moment

follow the path and remove it directly from the hard drive. worked for me.

Yes, that worked for me too. Always a bit hesitant to delete stuff when I don't know it's purpose. I moved to the desk top in case i needed to replace it. Restarted MS Word, open recent, error message gone.

Now I need the solution for MS Excel.

Here is the best fix for this issue that explains exactly what to do and seems to be reliable no matter which version of the OS you are running. Hope this helps!

Hi, I tried that but when i go to WORD/Tools/Templates and click on linkCreation.dotm but I am not able to delete it as the - box is not highlighted. Then I tried the fix for that as is mentioned below, copying the text stated there and paste it in terminal. Follwed bij ls. But nothing...?

Any other suggestions?

Sorry, not really. Deleting the respective file in the Powerpoint folder next to the Word folder causes other errors.

Actually, I never ever use Powerpoint because there are better alternatives and ways to make presentations, but I know this doesn't help…

I cannot locate this file on my MacBook Air (OS 12.5 Monterey). Where can I find it ?

I can't find it either! On MacBook Air (OS 12.4).
