iPad storage full? Only 25 GB of 512 GB is in use.

I have a new IPad purchased last month. As of right now, it shows 25 GB of 512 GB of storage in use. And yet, more than 10 times today I have received messages saying my IPad storage is full, and I need to buy more storage. Why is this happening?

The warning that you see does not relate to your iPad internal storage. Your iPad’s internal storage and RAM cannot be upgraded.

As described, you have exceeded your iCloud storage allocation - and it is this that you are seeing warnings with an invitation to subscribe to a higher storage tier.

All AppleID accounts have an initial “free” 5GB of iCloud storage - this being sufficient for basic iCloud synchronisation. If using iCloud for backup purposes, or file storage, you will very likely exceed your free storage quota - and may need to consider subscribing to the higher “paid” tiers of 50GB, 200GB and 1TB.

Troubleshooting iPhone Space, in Full:

This is not an option. See here: What does iCloud Back Up? - Apple Support

So, read the following...

Troubleshooting iPhone Storage:

Internal storage cannot be upgraded. It is what it is. So, the maximum internal storage capacity never increases, even if you upgraded your iCloud plan. Learn More here: What's the Difference Between Device Storage and iCloud Storage? Apple Support. So, you'll just have to clear space, and then perform the upgrade.

So, what to do:

Clear Space:

Try clearing internal storage though use of the following:

What Space to Clear:

A. Clear Temporary Internet Files:

Clear your Temporary Internet Files(Cookies & Cache) of Safari:

And...

B. Clean TV and Music Libraries:

Remove all unneeded files from your TV and Music Libraries. Full-Movies take up 2-4GB typically, and a bunch of those would take up a load of storage, ideally. So, if you have any movies that are not needed, then delete them.

And...

C. "Other" being the Culprit:

Use this Link: How to Check the Storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. The storage named "Other" is the grey bar. So, to clear that, this is what to perform: Clear Other storage on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Are you sure that it is complaining about the onboard storage being full? That cannot be expanded after the fact, so Apple software would not suggest buying more of it.

What Apple software might suggest buying more of is iCloud storage. Might it be telling you your iCloud storage is full? The free tier of iCloud is pretty small.

What is the exact wording of the message you are getting?

iPad storage full? Only 25 GB of 512 GB is in use.
