Apple family sharing and IDs after divorce

I'm in the process of a pretty amicable divorce with three kids in joint custody, an an apple family group and an Apple ID that all photos, music, apps and so on went through for 15 years.

Why does it feel like I'm the first person to have ever done what 50% of married couples do? Is there really no 'divorce wizard' from Apple that'll guide us through either creating new IDs or splitting the old one?

Is it true that our kids can't be part of 2 Apple family groups even though they are now part of 2 families?

Please tell me there's a clean solution from Apple for this very much every day life situation. So far it looks more complicated than the divorce itself.

There isn't a divorce wizard. The kids can't be part of two Apple Family groups at the same time.

Apple ID - create a new.

Apple ID – Create

When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed.
