Separate sheets in view

Perhaps you've already figured out this work-around to the limitation of only being able to view a single sheet at a time, but if not, here's what I do.

1. Copy one of the two sheets in the document that you want to display concurrently (using the Copy Sheet command from the drop-down menu chevron to the right of the Sheet name).
2. Open a new blank (Untitled) document and paste the sheet into the first sheet location that document (accessing the Paste Sheet command in the same way you did for the Copy Sheet command above).
3. This will allow you to view two sheets side-by-side.
4. When you're done editing the sheet you opened in the blank (Untitled) document, use the Copy Sheet command to copy the edited sheet and reverse the process, pasting the edited sheet into the original document, replacing the older version of that same sheet.
5. After you have moved the updated sheet back into the original document, you can delete (not save) the Untitled document you created.

Since this has been such a basic feature of Excel for the decades I used it before moving to Numbers, I remain surprised that Apple hasn't yet added this feature.

No point expressing your surprise in this user-to-user community.

Apple participation, beyond monitoring for adherence to the terms of use, and providing a group of Community Specialists who watch for posts that have had no responses within about 24 hours of asking the question, you'll not likely see a post here by an Apple employee or representative.

You can make a request directly to the Numbers team using the Provide Numbers Feedback menu item in the Numbers menu (in Numbers). Make a Feature request, and make a case for it. Note that you will get a reply from Apple only if they need further information regarding your request.

Hi, Barry. Thanks for your admonishment that I shouldn't express surprise in this user-to-user community, but I think the lecture was not needed. I fully understand that this user community is not a support channel to which Apple specialists subscribe and incorporate "expressions of surprise" as cause to modify their software. As an Apple user since 1981, I'm well aware of how to provide feedback on Mac apps and have done so regarding this very feature request. I note that you didn't express an opinion on the substance of the matter and I'm curious as to whether you agree that this would be an important feature addition. Perhaps you saw that I posted for other Numbers users a work-around "until" the feature is someday added.

As has already been said, it is not a feature of Numbers. However, by using File->Duplicate to create a dupicate of the document, you can view a static version of a sheet while editing another. You will look at the duplicate while editing the original. But if the edits affect the sheet that you are looking at, you will not see that happen (because you will be looking at the copy, not the one being edited). Delete (do not save) the duplicate when you are done.

You're welcome, and my apologies for presenting a 'lecture'. Not intended as an 'admonition,' but as information toward sending the request where it has a higher likelihood of (eventually) bringing about a change.

I did read the rest of your post, and found a workable workaround similar to what I've used in similar circumstances. Its main shortcoming is the one identified by Badunit: for any solution that involves using two Numbers documents—the second sheet, in a separate document, will be static, as Numbers documents cannot 'talk' with each other.

Importance of the feature would depend on the activities of the individual user. I suspect many users would find it 'useful.' Whether that's enough to make it 'important', I don't know.
