Rubber gasket on my screen is falling apart

It keeps getting worse and I have cut some of it off so it doesn't get annoying. Is this covered under apple care?

Hi, if your MacBook Pro is bought in one year, Apple Care+ can give a discount on fixing your MacBook Pro. If you didn't buy Apple Care+, you will only have Apple Care for 90days.

Here is the pricing for fixing your device with Apple Care: Mac Repair - Official Apple Support

You can contact apple support(go to the apple support main page, and select your device). Then you can select the hardware problems part and ask for more information to fix the screen. Go to this page: MacBook Pro - Official Apple Support

Never heard of that. Please post a link to that info.

I've never seen anything this bad so I do not know if Apple would declare that as user or mfr's damage.

The regular mfr's warranty is for one year with 90 days of free phone support. It does not cover accidental damage, but covers mfr's defects.

Applecare + will cover accidental damage and is for 3 years.

Your picture is too blurry to make out details.

I have personally seen some issues with the rubber gasket with some of our organization's Apple laptops which I believe has been caused by a reaction to some chemicals either from cleaning the screen, or more likely from some sort of hand lotion which has reacted adversely to it since usually the issue only occurs where people put their hands when opening & closing the lid.

Whether the gasket issue will be covered by the warranty for free can only be determined by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider since Apple always has the last say in the matter. It is hard to say what Apple will decide. You can also check your local consumer protection laws. Personally I would not use the AppleCare+ damage incident at this time if Apple won't cover the repair for free and save the incident for something more significant that would prevent you from using the laptop.
