Device: iPad Pro 12.9, Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad

iOS: 15.5

I just bought a Magic Mouse while using the Magic Trackpad for quite a while with an iPad Pro.

Surprisingly the functions available on the mouse are not the same as with the trackpad.

I am missing:

  • Tap to Click
  • Pinch to zoom

Is this just the way it is ?

Best regards

First of all@Apple: Please implement this as an option in the Mouse settings switched off by default.

Ok - it is the way it is probably because tap to click is prone to accidental clicks on the Magic Mouse, however, you can still get this feature with 3rd party tools like "BetterTouchTool".

It has its pros and cons and has way too many features for my needs, still I hate the loud click noise while I have nothing against keyboard typing, so I still use it just to be able to tap to click. You need to configure it carefully, the following setup works best for me:

Available gestures for the Magic Mouse 2 with iPad are detailed in the iPad User Guide:

Mouse actions and gestures for iPad - Apple Support

And for Trackpad 2:

Trackpad gestures for iPad - Apple Support

The Trackpad is obviously more flexible in its support for a multi-touch interface - whereas a mouse is arguably more suitable for a traditional computer setup. Each have their strengths - and weaknesses…
