End to end encryption

Hi I forgot my passcode on my iPhone 12. I erased it via find my iPhone on another apple device. When I’ve set my phone back up, I have everything but my iMessages back. I have some of them on my iPad, but all my messages on my phone are gone.

if I reset my end to end encryption, will this loose my iMessages that were on my phone beforehand? I am so scared of loosing my iMessages for good on my phone. I’m so upset. It says I can approve it from another device but how I do this?

Thats good, It shuld be very possible to get the messages from your iPad over to your iPhone.

If you are sure you have all the messages you want to have on your iPad:

First step is optional but recommended.

1. Make sure to make a backup to a PC or mac, that way you can get these messages back whatever happens during the next steps. (iCloud can also work, but it can be overwritten during the process unless you turn off automatic backups)

2. Reset the encrypted data on your iPhone and turn messages in iCloud on.

3. Turn on messages in iCloud on on your iPad as well. With this step messages from the iPad should start to show up on the iPhone.

4. When the sync is done, you can turn off messages in iCloud if you wish. If you don't have it turned on the messages will be saved without extra encryption in the backup, and you wont lose them even if you forget your passcode as long as you have an iCloud backup.

If you reset encrypted data the messages saved in iCloud is gone.

If you don't see those messages on any other devices, you won't have any other devices to approve from.

Unfortunately you only have 2 options, Wait and see if you can remember the passcode and hope it will allow you to use it.

Or reset encrypted data, erasing all the messages in iCloud.
