macOS Monterey not saving display settings

Hello,

The display is Dell S2722QC, connected by USB-C (DP) using the official Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable (0,8m).

Everything seems to work fine, but when set the Mac Mini to sleep, at wake up the display is set to the same settings: Scaled (Default) and 60Hz, but I had it with Default for display and 40-60Hz (VRR).

Deleting the file com.apple.windowserver.displays.plist and reboot works to reset the settings to default ones (Default for display and 40-60Hz (VRR)) but only until a new sleep, reverting to the Scaled (Default) and 60Hz by its own.

I have no flickering with VRR mode. I also tried disabling the display DDC/CI. The OS is updated.

This does not happen everytime I put to sleep, but once it happens, it holds that settings forever and set them each time it wakes up, so I have to change to VRR again manually, a bit annoying.

Mac mini, macOS 12.4

Well tested all applicable with no luck. But even if some could work like restoring to default, cannot configure all hardware display settings each time it decides to do the same. At the end it's a matter of time for the issue to show again.

Probably using something like SwitchResX could work, but I think having a daemon only for this is excessive, and only grants when reboot, not when wake up (the daemon is already running).

Looking the symptoms, seems some kind of issue with EDID, like if they were disconnected and at wake up the Mac is faster than the display and then use a "safe" setting (as Scaled/default and 60Hz should work on any display).

Currently trying to enable at display hardware settings the hold charge on USB-C port even at power off, that is checked as not energy friendly. But as long as the Mac Mini does not charge or powered by the Thunderbolt port, in practice should be the same.

After some sleeps/awakes seems to preserve settings. Will try some more and if the issue appears again then I will notify here.

Thanks.
