McAfee won't install

My MacBook air (2020, M1), after I installed big sur 11.6.7 screwed up my McAfee software. I uninstalled then reinstalled McAfee antivirus, malware software only to see a log screen saying my software quit and that the info would be sent to Apple.

My question is: would installing Monterey fix this issue or would I encounter the same problem.

It's just that I'm worried that just having a Mac firewall won't provide me with enough protection.

What does the macOS application firewall do?

I just assumed it was a general practice to protect your computer with antivirus and anti-malware software.

Why do you assume Apple doesn't already do that?

And yes, I am paying over $138 a year for this McAfee subscription.

Q - " My question is: would installing Monterey fix this issue or would I encounter the same problem."

A - Generally, issues that exist Before an upgrade to a newer version of macOS get carried through to the Newer Installation. Actually, have seen some have an even worse experience on the upgraded than before. It is good computer practice IMHO to fix or resolve Software issue before attempting any upGrade to a newer version of macOS.

A - There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

McAfee, and please do read some of the many posting directly related to this specific software

You should do as you see fit of course, but I'd reiterate that the best protection you can give your Mac is provided by Apple's macOS and security updates, not by a self-interested third party vendor.

It's general practice with Windows PCs to do this because IMO they're insecure bug boxes, but again, I'd recommend that keeping your Mac up to date is quite sufficient. Do some poking around in the Community discussions - use the search facility at the top of each page - and get some views on what you might do.

As to your main query about installing McAfee, I cannot offer any suggestions as I have no experience with the software.
