Using mobile data while wifi are reserved

Hi,

I am a boater and use iPad Pro 12.9" 2021 wifi+cellular as chart plotter.

I have Furuno DRS4W Radar in my boat, which is connected to my iPad via wifi. The Radar makes wifi-network were iPad is connected. So there's no WAN / internet, only radar device itself.

So how can i use cellular data simultaneously when wifi is reserved to radar use?

My iPad Air 2 recognices that there's no internet access via wifi, so it asks, if i want to use cellular data. But this new iPad Pro won't ask yet anything.

Can you please help me to solve this problem.

Regards,

You might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page.

Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

While your iPad has both a Cellular and WiFi network interface, the iPad can only route traffic via a single interface. In technical terms, your iPad network connection is not dual-home - and cannot simultaneously use to network connections.

If your radar does not employ a cellular connections of its own - and has the capability to act as a Network Router, your iPad will not be able to route traffic to the internet while associated with the closed WiFi network provided by your radar.

Does your radar have a bluetooth connection? If so - and you can pair the iPad with the radar via Bluetooth - you will be able to access the internet via your iPad’s Cellular connection.

Hi LotusPilot,

My former iPad Air 2 wifi+ceccular worked just fine. Wifi was connected to radar and mobile data worked simultaneously.

First it took a while when mobile data won't work. Then Air recognices that there's no wifi-internet access, and asks if i want to use mobile data.

Even bluetooth worked simultaneously with wifi and mobile data.

Just now i am a bit dissappointed with iPad pro. Hopefully there's some trick to solve this..
