on demand DND timer

Can I shut my phone up on a timer?

Say for instance, I want my phone not to disturb me for an hour, and then go back to normal?

What about more granular control like block messages, but allow phone calls etc.?

You can set DND for one hour (and a couple of other options) by going to the Control Center, pressing and holding on the Focus icon, then tapping on the three dots at the right next to the name of the Focus you want to enable.

At this point, you can't block messages but not calls. Let Apple know what you'd like t see here:

A sort of non-automatic option you could use is to buy (or make but I think it's too much trouble) a "silent" alert tone. When you want to get calls but not texts, go to Settings>Sounds & Haptics>Text Tone and set it to that "silence" alert. If you're really clever, it might be possible to set up an automation to do that.
