Can they be the same? This is all so confusing to setup.

I get xxxxx@icloud.com for both ids but not passwords.

An Apple ID log in and the App Store log in passwords should be the same if you are only using one Apple ID. They both use your Apple ID password.
If you forgot the Apple ID (iCloud) password, enter the Apple (iCloud) ID, and click Forgot Password. See if you can get a Rescue or Notification email option if necessary. Link to contact Apple Support at the end of the 2nd article.

If you change the Apple ID used in the App Store, you will lose access to all prior purchases.
If you still want to change it, go to Settings/Your Name and then Media and Purchases to sign out of the App Store. Then sign in with the desired Apple ID.
You can try setting up Family Sharing between the IDs if you want to be able to share purchases made with the IDs.
