It is always difficult to say which printer would be the best. I suggest that you study the web sites for the major manufacturers in order to find a model that meets your requirements.

Make sure that it is a model with support for the AirPrint technology (Brother HL-L2350DW is just one example among the smaller monochrome laser printers).

An AirPrint-enabled model is compatible with macOS, and can be used without additional drivers, provided that the printer and the computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router).

I just got the HP LaserJet M110w printer and it works great. It as only $129 and was a good replacement to our 8 year old HP. We have it connected via AirPrint and it's very quick. Replacement toner cartridges from HP are $47 and are good for about 960 pages.
