MacBook M1 SDXS CArd

Using a new MacBook M1, how does the SDXC work? Is it like an external drive? Can you use drop & drag from the MacBook desktop? Does it use any of the internal 1TB drive space? Can Time Machine access it?

It works like any external drive. Maybe this will help you: Use the SD and SDXC card slot on your Mac - Apple Support even though your computer does not have a slot. You would use a usb connector and sd card reader. These ards are not as reliable as an external SSD so I would not recommend using one as your only backup device.
