wifi speed different on 2 identical devices

Hi

i have a 13 pro max and average 500Mbps. My son had an xsmax and could only achieve average 60Mbps. He has since got a 13 pro max aswell and still can only achieve average 60Mbps.

the only difference is the cellular carrier. I’m o2 and he is Vodafone. Afaik this should make absolutely no difference with the Wi-Fi speed.

can anybody explain\advise?

cheers

The internet speed will depend upon the ISP and what is the type of the router / modem that you are connecting to? If it has WiFi 5 or WiFi 4 the iPhone 11 and higher will only connect to WiFi 5 or WiFi 4 because it has downward compatibility. If the router has WiFi 6 802.11ax it will seamlessly connect to it with WiFi 6.

If you have iPhone XS, which has 802.11ac Wi‑Fi 5, it will connect to the router with only 802.11ac WiFi 5 even if the router has WiFi 6 (802.11ax).

If you have iPhone 13 Pro Max, which has WiFi 6 802.11ax. It will connect to the router only with WiFi 5 or WiFi 4 if that is what the router is capable of providing.
