How do I check the progress on transaction if they are being refunded

When I send money through Apple Pay I end up getting a text either right away or a couple hours later stating that Apple is refunding the money I sent and it would be available in 24 hr. What does this mean?

I’ve gotten it a couple different times but I’m still not seeing a refund of funds, I see where it was sent when I click on the number I’m sending money to but nothing else.

im thinking these are scams out I just wanted to make sure.
