I just received a Sony FX3 and cant get audio to work in FCPX. Does anybody have a solution? There should be a possibility to convert with FFMPEG but I dont know if its possible to batch process those files. Or is there a newer version of FCPX that can read those files. I am still working on MACOS Catalina so I dont have the latest version.

But you hear it? Sounds like the waveforms aren’t drawing properly. Try closing the app, dumping the cache, and restarting it. Don’t do anything in it for a couple of minutes and see if it creates the waveforms.

The files plays in VLC and I can edit it in resolve, premiere and avid. But not in Final Cut.

In what way doesn't it work? Can you upload a clip somewhere like WeTransfer or Dropbox that we can see what's happening?
I think 10.5.4 is the last version in Catalina. Is that what you have? What's the computer?
And you don't see anything in audio configurations? Could you post a screenshot of what's there? Does the file play correctly in the QT player?

Thats why I thought it would be fixed only in newer versions of final cut.
But as you say it should work in my version I am still hoping to fix it.

I contacted Apple Support and (as always) they asked me to reinstall the whole system. Luckily I decided not to format my internal drive and used an external one because I dont seem to be able to install final cut at all anymore. The newest version is not compatible with catalina anymore and I cannot find a way to install an old version. Or is there any option?? This would mean, as soon as I reformat my mac, the system gets unuseable because most apps cannot be installed from the app store anymore. is that right??
Completely wrong. Any application you purchased from the App Store can be re-downloaded from your Purchased page. You will get the most current version available for your OS. Some apps can also be reinstalled from your backup.
