I can't control volume from my keyboard with an LG monitor

I just purchased a Mac Studio with an LG 38WK95C-W monitor. The reason I purchased this monitor was because I thought it worked well with Apple computers. I get no volume control or brightness either.

I tried monitorcontrol app but it doesn't seem to work. There is no volume tab in the preferences.

The monitor is plugged in with the thunderbolt connection. I thought they worked with LG? Can someone please help me with a solution so I don't have to return my monitor. Though there isn't another solution, is there? I don't want an Apple monitor, so I'm basically handcuffed to never adjusting the volume?

Thanks.

I have a 32-inch LG monitor with my M1 mini (macOS 11.6.7) and have no volume control via HDMI connection. I see no resolution via this connection type. If you have external Bluetooth speakers, or headphones, you do have keyboard audio control over them for content played on the LG display. There are a pair of 5 watt speakers on the LG just going to waste…

Not sure if this is the Exact Model https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-38WK95C-W-ultrawide-monitor

On-Screen Control

On-Screen Control puts a host of essential monitor settings into a handy window for quick, easy access. Volume, brightness, picture mode presets, Screen Split 2.0 and Dual Controller and more can now be adjusted with just a few clicks of the mouse, instead of hard buttons on the monitor.

Software download required to enable OnScreen Control. For download details, visit LGUSA.com/OnScreenControlSupport

Well hopefully not, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I don't want to return this monitor.

From research I've been doing, the issue seems to be on the Mac end. They don't care to have their OS control third party hardware, especially when they have a new monitor on the market. Or that's my read of the situation.

So the question ends up being, is there an app that does work to solve this? Why doesn't MonitorControl work with my Studio? Maybe it will update, I don't know. But maybe someone has specific experience in this area.

I really appreciate your input, thanks a bunch.

No Big deal regarding the Placement in Big Sur.

Will request of Moderator to possible move to Monterey if that is OK.

Regarding Monitor this is my setup on M1 Mac Mini running Monterey 12.4

Asus 27 " Monitor over HDMI - not the same as yours I know.

In this setup, the Sound Volume and Brightness Control are ALL Passed over HDMI and to the Builtin Asus Controls which are Manually setup by me

I know, I am kinda looking into external speakers to work around this issue. But the reason I purchased this specific monitor was the speakers (and that I thought it was Mac friendly). The speakers will be completely useless.

As for the controls going over the HDMI on your ASUS P.Phillips, the same should work with my thunderbolt connection, however I have no controls. I could try the HDMI instead but I don't think that's the issue.

I'm surprised the MonitorControl app doesn't work. It seems to be an issue with the M1 macs? I tried the SoundSource app but it's asking me to adjust my system's ACE setting, however the visual it provides doesn't match my preferences when I follow the link.

Has anyone had luck with volume control and M1 macs, if so what app works, or which preferences need to be changed?

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

Yes that's the exact monitor. However I think On-Screen Control allows me to control the monitor with the app (instead of the monitor's buttons), using the mouse but it doesn't enable the volume buttons on my keyboard. Actually, there seems to be something wrong with the app, it has a glitch I think, I can't select all the tabs and features, but that's an issue for another day.

Thanks!

One other small note – This LG monitor doesn't have a on audio input, except for the way it's designed to have audio come through the USB or HDMI etc. There is a 3.5mm port but I guess that is just an output. I wish that it was an input so I can use the headphone output on the back of the Studio. That would've been an easy solution.
