Can't add folder onto desktop or drag folder to desktop

Hey Everyone!

I am having trouble creating a folder on my desktop and dragging exisiting folders onto my desktop. When I right click on my desktop I am not given any options to create new file/folder and when I click the finder menu the 'new folder' option is greyed out. I am able to create a new folder on the finder app but not my desktop on my MacBook Air.

Any help would be appreciated!

Open a new Finder window, press Command-Shift-H to go to your home folder. Click on the Desktop folder in there to select it, and press Command-I

Post a screenshot including the last part about permissions.

I noticed that the title of the window says Desktop – Local.

I am thinking that you may have activated "Documents & Desktop in iCloud".

In that case, you should not use the local Desktop, but instead you will find it in iCloud Drive.

Locate iCloud Drive (it should appear under "iCloud" in the Sidebar), and see if there is a Desktop there.

Edit: I just noticed that iCloud Drive is visible in the Sidebar in the shot you posted.
