Messenger not working without wifi

recently we transferred our phone from an iPhone 6s+ to an iPhone12. For some reason we can’t use messenger unless we are connected to wifi. In The past we have always used data. We have tried all the helpful suggestions online (rebooting phone, starting & stopping airplane mode), the refresh suggestion, checking to be sure data is checked for both Facebook & messenger. Facebook will open without wifi but not messenger. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Perhaps disconnecting and reconnecting to iMessage would help


If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support


Failing that, it sounds as-if your mobile carrier’s data connection might not be working.


Suggest you steel yourself and give your carrier a call from a DIFFERENT line - with the WiFi “off” - so they might troubleshoot w/o dropping your voice call.
