Time Machine freeing space

I back up to Time Machine on a Seagate Backup Plus Slim (1TB). Format is Mac OS Extended. From what I can see I have three backups of my MacBook stored ( maybe 100GB so that makes 300GB) plus 15GB of photos. Have just recently tried and failed to backup and it says insufficient space. Of 999GB it says 949GB is used. How do I find what is 'hiding' and occupying space and how do I get rid of it? (OS is Monterey). Would appreciate help. Thanks.

The issue may not be the Time Machine Backup Drive is full but the Internal Drive is running out of Empty Space

If that is accurate and not taken action to fix this issue - the computer may Stop Booting Up at all.

Will ask the Moderators to move this Question to Monterey if that is OK
