read receipts ios 15.5

Running iOS 15.5 my iPhone is sending read receipts despite having that option turned off. Has this bug returned in the latest iOS update and is there a fix?

Try this -> restart the iPhone -> Restart your iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

If that doesn't help, -> Contact - Official Apple Support.
