Ok, I definitely understand your nervousness in this situation. When photos are saved to iCloud, this means that they are not on any one device and they are being stored in the cloud on Apple’s servers so it shouldn't take up physical hard drive space on any of your devices.
If you want to be very sure that you are doing everything right, Apple Support would probably be a better choice to handle this situation.

Alternatively, you could make an appointment at your local Apple Store if you want to talk to someone face to face.

As you upload things to the cloud (photos, files, etc…), the space will automatically be filled up.

I transferred all my photos to the Mac, but now if I delete a photo from the phone, it says it will delete it from icloud photos on all the devices. Isn't that bad?? I just want to try to make some more room on the phone.
I need a manual. So if they get deleted off all the devices, how do I find them on iCloud? I want to keep them on the Mac, there's plenty of storage space there. Sorry, this is all rather scary to me.
It was a start, thank you very much. I at least have it turned on now, but how do I get the photos already on the phone or Mac to the cloud?
Perfect! The photos are now in iCloud, this means that when you delete a photo on one device it gets deleted from all your devices because they are all syncing to the cloud.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help!
Of course, I’m glad I could help!
