Went through initial migration steps, but my new Mac seems to be stuck at the “starting up” screen. It has been “starting up for over an hour. Is there something I can do to get it to progress?

How did you Migrate to the new Mac?
(over your Wi-Fi network, a direct Ethernet connection or using your Time Machine backup)
At this point your only option is to shutdown and then turn it back on.
If it worked, then you're good to go.
If not, then report what's happing.

Shut down holding the power button, then turn on the iMac and tell us what happens.
Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support
Important: You can force a shutdown if necessary—for example, if your Mac becomes unresponsive—by pressing and holding the power button until your Mac shuts down. You may lose unsaved changes in open documents.
Please shut down your new Mac and please follow the directions in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant. Using Wi-Fi to migrate fails about 100% of the time!!
