M1 Mac Mini to NAD M33 via HDMI

I'd like to connect my M1 Mac Mini via HDMI to an NAD M33 integrated amplifier to play hi-res music from Apple Music. There is an HDMI cable connecting the two, and HDMI is selected as the input on the M33, but the Mini does not see the M33 so there is no way to select it as the Output device on the Sound panel.

I've tried ensuring the M33 is powered up and ready, then restarting the Mini, but it still does not appear in the sound panel.

What's the problem?

I experienced a similar issue and solved disconnecting temporarily any other audio device from the Mac mini.

It's suggested on this Apple's page:

If you're connecting from a Mac mini, unplug any audio device that is plugged into your computer's Audio-Out port.

Now I see here that the HDMI port on NAD M33 is and ARC HDMI:

I don't know if it's related: an ARC HDMI port should work as a regular HDMI input. I'd check if possible the following setup (assuming you have a TV carrying an HDMI ARC port):

Mac mini (HDMI output) -> TV (HDMI input) -> TV (HDMI ARC) -> NAD M33 (HDMI ARC). Just to be sure that the NAD's ARC port works.
