no junk or spam sbcglobal

My sbcglobal email account shows a Junk folder in Apple Mail on my iPhone 13 Mini, iOS 15.5 but it is grayed out and I cannot move mail to it.

I tried deleting the account and reinstalling it on my iPhone but that onky grayed out the Trash folder too, for a little while but Trash is now working again. The Junk folder is still grayed out, however.

Is there a way to fix this?

OK, so here's a solution! When you are in the Inbox of an SBCglobal.net email account using the iOS Mail app and tap Select to choose one or more emails that you want to move the the Junk folder, instead of tapping Move at the bottom of the screen tap Mark, then Move to Junk.

It's not the most intuitive interface because this is not how you would move mail between other folders, but it works and I for one am very glad to have the answer to moving numerous SPAM/Junk messages all at once to the Junk folder instead of having to do them one-by-one.

I have the same issue. I have been unable to find anyoneee else mentioning this issue, and until I saw this post, I thought I was the only one!

If I try to select multiple emails and select move, then junk is greyed out. (Exactly as your photo).

The only way I can move them to junk is moving them individually (but I do NOT open them).

On each one, I have to swipe, click “…more” and then select “move to junk”. For each & every junk email.

Is it an iOS Mail App issue? Or an issue with the specific email provider used?

Have you found any other info, Russ? 🤞🏼

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. There is a Spam folder when I use Safari iOS. There is no Spam folder in iOS Mail. There is a Starred folder in Safari that does not exist in iOS mail. Plus, none of the folders in Safari are grayed out, but now the Drafts, Junk and Trash folders are grayed out. This is not the case in Safari.

Yes, the second time I reinstalled the account.

I realize that perhaps I could have been more clear about something… The junk email box is only grayed out when I am trying to move something to it. It shows as normal when I just look at the mailboxes, but again, if I select an email in my inbox and wish to move it to the junk box that is when the junk email box is grayed out.

Immediately after the first time I reinstalled the account the Trash folder was grayed out but later it wasn't. I can't explain that. That's really not the issue here. I get a lot of Spam that I want to move from the Inbox to the Junk folder but I can't because the Junk folder is grayed out when I try to move the emails. If I select the Junk folder even though it is grayed out nothing happens. There is no button to Move the email. I will try to attach a screenshot but this discussion board is very finicky about that.

OK. I see that you are suggesting I open an email, then move it to Junk or wherever. That does work, but there are two problems with it. First, I need to open each message which is something I've been told to avoid with Spam. The next problem is the method you suggest would be very time consuming, doing one email after another after another for dozens of emails.

Normally, if there are numerous SPAM messages in one of my Inboxes (I have several email accounts with different providers) I can use the Select All option followed by the Move option to easily move numerous messages in just a few taps. That is what I want to do. Much quicker and easier than opening dozens of emails and moving them one by one and it also allows me to avoid opening emails that may be malicious. But, as per my OP this is not possible with my SBCGlobal/Yahoo/AT&T email account because the Junk folder is grayed out as per the screenshot in my OP.

You noted that the email account in iOS Apple Mail on my iPhone should reflect the folder structure I see when I access the email account when using Safari. You may be onto something here, because the folder structure is different. There is no Junk folder when I use a browser. There is a SPAM folder. This begs the question, why are the folders different on MY iPhone using iOS in Apple Mail than when using a browser. The attached screenshots show the divergent folder hierarchies for the account in question when I log into the account with the Apple Mail app on my iPhone vs. a browser on my laptop. They are differnet. This may point to where the problem lies. But how to fix? it remains the question.

P.S. I tried to post screenshots of iOS Mail and the same account using a broswer on my laptop. the discussion only pics up one image. It won't allow me to post more than one. I have never had good luck with discussions.apple. in regard to usability and functionality. It's one of the worst discussion groups to which I have ever belonged in my many years of using computers, but that's another matter.
