confused about iPhone photo format

I have an iPhone SE, and although it is kinda hard to find, I understand that the forward camera format is 3024x4032 (which is 12 Mp, which is easy to find). Now, when I download a jpg from this camera, the Mac "Get Info" reports that the image is 2322x3088 (7Mp). That's the same aspect ratio, but with fewer pixels. I'm doing "Download and Keep Originals", which you'd think would preserve the size. What's the deal? Is this a matter of jpg compression, or what? How do you set that compression?

And the answer is that there are two cameras on an iPhone SE. The "front" camera which, bizarrely enough, is the camera pointed back at you, is 7 Mp. The "back" camera which, bizarrely enough, is the one pointed straight ahead, is 12 Mp. I was looking at the size of the the picture that came out of the 7 Mp camera and indeed, the jpeg that comes out of it is 7 Mp.
