iPhone has lost cellular ability to connect. We can’t activate.

My husband’s iPhone has lost the ability to connect to cellular data. We can’t activate cellular connection. We have restarted his iPhone, reset his iPhone. Checked for updates. Nothing seems to work. Help requested. After reset, we can’t connect to my iPhone through personal hotspot.

Troubleshooting Cellular Data:

A. "No Service":

Is "No Service" shown on the top-left corner of your screen? If so, go here to fix that: If you See No Service or Searching on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

B. Contact your Carrier:

Having issues with Cellular, contact your Carrier, asking them to configure this to the correct settings. They configure all of this in the SIM card.

Please Clarify:

So, when you tap Cellular, it does not change green, correct?

If Cellular Button is Note Working...

A. Check for Updates:

Update Using a Computer. Use my User Tip:  Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip

B. Rid of "System Data" (Formerly Called "Other"):

See My User Tip: How to Clear "Other" in your iPhone's Storage - Use Backup - User Tip

No Success?...

C. Reset the Home Screen Layout:

If widgets are not working as they should or have gone missing somehow, then you need to reset the Home Screen Layout...

Go Here: Move and Organize Apps on iPhone - Apple Support

You'd have to add back all the widgets that you can recall being back on there. So, write down what is currently on the Home Screen.

Scroll to: Reset the Home Screen and Apps to their Original Layout

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: General
  3. Tap: Reset
  4. Tap: Reset Home Screen Layout
  5. Then... Add the apps back

iPhone has lost cellular ability to connect. We can’t activate.
