Why does my original iPhone SE not support VoLTE?

Supposedly all iPhones starting with the 6 support VoLTE. The SE came out after the 6 and so should support VoLTE.

When AT&T announced a couple of years ago that it would be requiring VoLTE for voice, I thought I'd be ok. But since AT&T implemented a requirement of VoLTE for cellular in my area, I cannot use my SE. (I tried reinitializing network settings but that made no difference.) In network data settings, there are options to choose 4g, 3g, and 2g, but no LTE or VoLTE options. At the top of my screen, it says I have a 4g connection.

My iPhone 12 Mini gives me 5g and LTE options, and also a VoLTE option. When connected to AT&T, at the top of my screen it says "LTE" and I can make voice calls over AT&T.

So, should my SE be working with VoLTE or was the "6 or later" info incorrect?

Hi Randysea,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you don't see the option for VoLTE on your iPhone SE. The link below provides the various iPhone SE models and their tech specs. This confirms that all three versions of the iPhone SE work with VoLTE.

Identify your iPhone model

iPhone SE (1st generation) - Technical Specifications

Audio Calling
FaceTime audio
Voice over LTE (VoLTE)4
Data plan required. LTE, VoLTE, and Wi-Fi calling are available in select markets and through select carriers. Speeds are based on theoretical throughput and vary based on site conditions and carrier. For details on LTE support, contact your carrier and see www.apple.com/iphone/LTE.

VoLTE is a feature provided by your carrier. If you don't see this option, you may consider contacting your carrier directly to have them check the provisioning of your account. They'd be best suited to assist you.

Take care!

I don't think there is any point in contacting AT&T, even if I could find a customer service person who even knows what VoLTE is.

If I did contact AT&T, I'd have to say that VoLTE works fine on my iPhone 12 mini, but not on my SE. That's in the same location, with same sim card. They'd say it's obviously a problem with the SE. So that's why I made this post.
