How do you sign in with your Cable or TV provider with the Apple TV app on Mac?

Connecting with a provider requires Apple TV hardware and is done through settings (as per the support article above). The Apple TV app on Mac only gives you access to the content available directly (purchases and Apple TV channel subscriptions).
