Option to use iPhone/iPad for signature not available in Preview?

I'm trying to insert a signature into a PDF in Preview, following the instructions here:

Fill out and sign a PDF form in Preview on Mac - Apple Support


Unfortunately, I am not given the option to use an iPad/iPhone at all. I have an iPhone 13 mini that is currently signed in to the same iCloud account as the mac I'm using, as well as a 13 pro that is on a different account but associated through family sharing; neither one is available in the annotation toolbar drop-down, although the mini does show up as an option to import photos and scan documents from in the file menu.


I've attached a screenshot of the issue.


I can't seem to find any information on this or anyone else experiencing the same problem.


Do you guys have any input?

I would try first connecting the iPhone to your Mac with a cable, and make sure that they both "trust" each other, and see if that helps: does the iPhone appear as an option while connected via cable, and if so, does it still appear after disconnecting the cable.

They are indeed on the same wifi network, and both devices have bluetooth enabled and are able to see each other.


An interesting and possibly related development is that I just enabled wifi syncing on the 13 mini per Apple's support article (Sync content between your Mac and iPhone or iPad over Wi-Fi - Apple Support) and even though the devices are on the same wifi network, the iphone does not appear in the sidebar in a finder window (and yes, that's configured as it should be)


I'm beginning to wonder if there's not an obscure security setting buried somewhere in Ubiquiti's routing and firewall software that's a contributing factor here, as I have the same issue with preview signatures and these phones on my MBP, which is at a different location and on a different network but also using Ubiquiti hardware.
