Backlight inconsistent on iPhone

My iPhone started this thing today where my backlighting is all messed up. My screen won’t light up at all when a notification comes through. Also, while I’m looking at it stationary in a room where the room lighting isn’t changing at all my phone backlighting will suddenly get brighter or dimmer at random. There’s no reason for this. My room lighting isn’t changing. Nothing around me is changing. What’s going on with my lighting? I powered off and back on but it hasn’t fixed the issues.

If you have auto adjusting brightness on, your iPhone will try to adjust to the brightness it is sensing through the sensor next to the front facing camera. If you block and unblock it, the brightness of your phone may change.

We understand you are having lighting issues with your iPhone's screen. Have you had the screen previously repaired on the device? Is there any physical damage to the iPhone's screen? Has the iPhone been exposed to water? Are you using a screen protector or case on the iPhone?

Hi, the screen has never been repaired. The screen has never been cracked or broken. No water that I’m aware of. I do use both a screen protector and a case for my iPhone.

Also, my hands were no where near the camera lenses at the time this kept happening.

As mysterious as this problem began, it seems to have mysteriously corrected itself for now. At this time, the lighting issue seems to have resolved itself. Not sure why it began or how it stopped but I’m grateful.
