An at-home job I am applying for wants to make sure I have an Apple ID and wants to know it. It does not ask for my password. Is there any danger in this? I can't think of any. Maybe they want to send emails to me or text me? I do not think there is anything weird about it but what do you think?

It smells odd, and too close to a scam.

You probably don’t want to mix your personal Apple ID with business activities anyway.

if you’re inclined to continue with this job application, I’d be inclined to create a new Apple ID with some name related to the job posting, and offer that as your Apple ID.

If they do something weird or scammy with the Apple ID, it’s not your personal Apple ID.

If it’s legitimate, you’ve now kept your business stuff completely separate.

Win-win.

An AppleID without the password is just an email address. It doesn’t grant them any access to your Apple service accounts.

But they also cannot verify an email address is an AppleID so they have to just take your word that the email you provide is an AppleID.

Personally though, I cannot imagine a single reason why any at home work employer would have any legitimate reason for their employees having personal AppleIDs? I know I would never and do not ever use my personal AppleID for anything work related.

My personal policy is nobody but myself needs to know anything about any of my personal online service account logins. No employer needs to know what personal email address (I have more than a few as I own my own domains) I use as a login ID with any online service provider. So I guess my first question to your potential employer is why do need to know about my personal AppleID? That’s just an odd ask, IMO?
