Superdrive useless with iMac 2021?

Is my superdrive useless now that I have bought an iMac M1 2021? Guidance seems to suggest you can't connect via a hub, and of course there is no 'standard' USB port on the desktop! I bought a 4-port Type C 3.0 hub which works for other stuff (e.g. external hard drive) but my Superdrive is 'offline'.

Any help appreciated!
