Cox email password change, iPad air 2022

My Cox account password has changed and I cannot update it on my iPad. Error says to add password in Mail Account Settings but there is no place to update the password other than incoming Server section.

If you are having difficulties, it can often be simplest and most expedient to delete the email account from your iPad - then re-add the account. Assuming that you are using an IMAP mailbox, no mail messages will be lost - as all mail is stored on the mail server.

To delete the email account:

Settings > Mail > Accounts > [Your email account] > Delete Account

A forced-restart is recommended prior to re-adding the email account:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

After restarting the iPad, re-add your email account:

Thank you.

These are the same steps I have been going thru without any success.

Account gets added then message appears when looking for mail "Cannot Get Mail, No password provided for "Cox". Please go to Mail Account Settings and enter a password."

This is the screen now for the Cox mail account with only the Incoming server section having a password field available. Tried this several times with no luck.

Has you email provider switched to using App Specific Passwords? If so, you will need to generate a unique password for your iPad email account - that will differ from your normal Account Password. As examples - AOL, Yahoo, Google, Microsoft all use App Specific Passwords when using anything other than their own email client Apps.

If you need to generate an App Specific Password, you’ll need to log-in to your Mail Providers account management webpage - using a web browser - and generate the Password from the appropriate account security page.

More information about AOL’s App Specific Passwords can be found here:

For Yahoo, more information can be found here:
